Xbox Series X appears to have a disc drive issue
It’s console launch week, which means plenty of fans are now opening and starting their new hardware. While for the most part, the Xbox Series X debut seems to be going well (now that Xbox Live is back online), some fans report problems with their disk drives.
Videos floating around the internet show the Xbox Series X buzzing loudly or making strange clicks after accepting a disc, like this:
This is if the console accepts the game at all – some videos show that the Xbox Series X has issues with inserting the game, as you can see in the videos below.
I think my #XboxSeriesX may have a faulty disk drive. I tried inserting a few different compatible games (Xbox One and 360) and the player won’t let me insert it. There is nothing in there (to my knowledge). I just installed it.
Any help is appreciated! pic.twitter.com/2r1mQkYSLY

Some players report that things get better if they try to put their consoles horizontally or vertically. A thread on Reddit has players saying they brutally force their games into the console. Others, meanwhile, say they only hear the loud sounds of the Xbox Series X when installing games, although nothing at the level of the videos above.
Microsoft did not return a request for comment in time for the press. The folks at Polygon who got the console early for the overhaul also didn’t run into any issues like these. For now, it seems that if you are having this problem, the best thing to do is to try and get in touch with Xbox Support Services – although the official “known issues” page does not currently include anything about disk drives.
Update: Microsoft has not specifically recognized the problem with the drive, but encourages users to check their devices and resolve issues. via the official page.
