What to know about the new platform for the indoor self-storage store


Self-storage professionals know very well how stressful moving can be. Our industry is built on the repercussions of life-changing events, and moving is a key driver of storage demand and customer anxiety. While going from the comfortable to the unknown can be exciting for some, with every new adventure usually come some unknowns and some level of tension. This has been my reality for the past few months as we worked behind the scenes to relaunch the ISS Store on an entirely new platform.

After 10 years of delivering educational products to self-storage operators, investors and developers on our original e-commerce engine, I’m thrilled to announce that today we’ve officially moved to a brand new platform, including a new web domain: https://shop.insideselfstorage.com/. Although we have set up redirects to redirect customers to the new site, please bookmark this new URL for easier future access.

The move was necessary for several reasons, the main one being that the legacy environment could no longer be supported internally. Even releasing new products required occasional creativity and ingenuity, à la MacGyver. In other words, it was time for a change. The best news to share about the new platform is that it offers some advantages that our old house did not have, including mobile responsiveness and the ability to offer bundled video streaming products for the first time, which I I’ll get to in a moment. moment. First, let’s take care of some important maintenance measures.

Reset password

We have worked extremely hard to make this transition as smooth as possible, including the migration of thousands of customer accounts, including previous orders. However, as the passwords are encrypted, they were not transferable to the new platform, meaning we need existing customers to reset their login details.

If you have an existing ISS Store account, you should have received an email earlier today with instructions on how to log in using a temporary password and then immediately update a new, which will give you access to your previous in-store purchases. Please refer to the email for more details, but if you are having trouble installing, you can email me at [email protected]. I will do my best to help you as soon as possible.

Please note that some recent purchases are being transferred and may not be available immediately. As always, we appreciate your patience in resolving any issues.

Find your way around

The first thing you’ll notice is that the new site looks a lot like the old one. This was intentional to make the move easier with familiar site functions and organization. Products are organized much the same way, with product categories listed at the top of the left navigation area and topics listed below in the Subjects area. The main entry points and functions, including search, login, account information, and the library of purchased products, are all positioned in the top navigation bar.

Your “My On-Demand Library” will continue to house all digital and downloadable product purchases; however, the new system requires us to separate digital downloads, such as guides and Lists of the best operators, from streaming videos. Downloadable content can be accessed from your library via the ‘My Digital Downloads’ link, while streaming content can be viewed by clicking on ‘My Streamed Videos’.

You’ll also notice that we now refer to online videos as “streaming” rather than “on demand”. This is partly to set expectations since the videos are not downloadable but are viewable via an embedded player in your library. Another reason is that the new platform uploads video content through a different system than downloadable items. As a result, there will now be a delay in delivering the streaming video to your library, which can take up to 24 hours. Typically, the System Download will deliver purchased titles to customer accounts nightly by 8:00 p.m. Central Time, although times may vary.

We recognize that this is a change from the previous platform and appreciate your patience. Please plan in advance when you may need to view a purchased video, so that you are not unexpectedly inconvenienced.

Bundled video packages

While having to wait a few hours to access educational videos isn’t ideal, the trade-off is our ability to finally offer streaming videos in bundled packages. Previously, customers who preferred streaming video over DVD format had to order each desired session individually and could not take advantage of the price discounts we gave to our large DVD packages. Going forward, DVDs will be phased out, with new video content offered only in the streaming format.

This new model kicks off with video pre-orders for the sessions we will be recording this week at Inside the Universal Self Storage Expo in Las Vegas. As in previous years, we will capture the entire simultaneous training program, covering six components: construction, innovation, investment, management, ownership and protection.

Video pre-orders for ISS World Expo 2022 content are available now, with special pricing through April 22. Each session can be ordered individually as single session or as part of a reduction package. Each complete track is offered as a set of seven sessions, which saves money by purchasing tracks individually. In addition, there are three larger packages, which offer even greater discounts:

Since we will be saving money on material and labor costs by removing DVDs, customers will also benefit from lower packaging prices this year. At regular price, the Total Solutions 2022 package is $150 less than it would have been in DVD format, and taking advantage of the pre-order during the show special will save you another $150. Although post-show assembly and production will still require several weeks, we can eliminate the extra time for shipping. We plan to upload the pre-ordered videos directly to your ISS Store account by June 24. You will be notified by e-mail as soon as your purchased titles are available.

Long live Las Vegas

Like when we launched the ISS Store at ISS World Expo 2012, the timing of our move to a new platform coincides with this year’s show. As you can imagine, it’s been a hectic and time-consuming few months planning for the salon and store migration in addition to publishing our usual slate of content through the website and ISS magazine. We expect the new site to work seamlessly, but as with any move, there are bound to be a few surprises.
