This ’64 Chevy Chevelle Malibu SS Restomod has 1140 horsepower – Robb Report
It’s not uncommon to see an improved classic car during the restoration process, but a 1964 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu SS restoration that just went on sale belongs entirely to a new class.
The magnificent cruiser sold by RK Motors in Charlotte, NC, may have started life as a muscle car, but now has more in common with a Lamborghini Huracán than an old-fashioned Ford Mustang. This is because under its hood hides a new engine almost four times more powerful than the original.
The absurd power of the Malibu SS in silver can be attributed to not one but two restorations. The first, which was overseen by Roadster Shop, turned the car into a real beauty, while the second, run by Kindig It Design, turned it into a beast. The latter saw the car fitted with a 6.2-liter twin-turbo LS3 V8 that was upgraded with custom valve covers and fully coated headers, as well as a cold air intake.
Coupled with a Finish Line four-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the rear axle, as it should with any real muscle car, the muscular mill can generate 1140 jaw-dropping horsepower. For comparison, the Chevelle Malibu SS was originally equipped with a 5.4-liter V8 producing 300 hp. No performance figures were given, but it’s not a big step to conclude that the restomod is significantly faster than the original.
Other mechanical modifications include a Roadster Shop Fast Track chassis with adjustable Penske racing shocks, rack and pinion steering and a custom exhaust system. To help all the speed and muscle to come, four-wheel disc brakes with 14-inch rotors and Wilwood six-piston calipers. You can never be safe in such a powerful car, after all.
The look of the car is no less impressive. The original restoration saw the classic model finished in a shiny silver pigment and fitted with a custom blue leather interior and roll bar. The coupe, which rolls on 18 inch and 20 inch Forgeline rims, is really something to watch and was featured on the Motortrend TV show. Bitchin ‘Rides.
As you might have guessed, the silver Malibu SS won’t be cheap. RK Motors currently listed it at $ 197,900. But considering how it looks on the outside and the power that lies under the hood, we’re sure there’s at least one muscle car enthusiast out there who will catch it quickly.
