The cult classic of electric electric bikes Electric bike Lectric XP seems to be receiving a new generation next week.

This is what we see in a teaser that has just been released by the company.

A dark image of a bicycle shop pegboard shows the Lectric eBike company logo with the date “5.18.21” followed by the words “A NEW GENERATION”.

The teaser image doesn’t immediately offer details other than the launch date and a hint about a new electric bike.

As usual, we usually go all CSIs on these teaser images, whitewashing them to reveal any hidden details. In this case, all we can see is what appears to be a bike shop tool room. If there is a new electric bike coming up, the Lectric eBikes team is not showing us yet.

But it’s still probably one of the most anticipated releases of the year.

The Lectric XP has an interesting history. It was originally released in the summer of 2019 after two young entrepreneurs and longtime friends Robby Deziel and Levi Conlow spent their last dollars to produce 10 prototypes.

They sent these prototypes to YouTube reviewers (with Electrek being one of them). Internet has gone crazy for the Electric bike at $ 899, and the rest was history, as they say.

After starting out in their apartment and garage, the duo quickly grew the business and sold tens of thousands of e-bikes in the first year. Soon after, they had already surpassed $ 20 million in revenue.

The Lectric XP has been a success in large part due to its low price and simple design. The fat tire foldable electric bike didn’t offer bells and whistles (well, that’s not fair, it came with a bell), but it did debut as a fast 45km / e-bike. h fun street walk and light hiking. Its compact folding nature made it popular with cyclists who needed to store the bike in small spaces, such as car trunks and RVs.

The bike also scored points with its internal battery which was both theft resistant and sleeker than the external packs.

There weren’t many options or accessories available for the bike at the start, and the bike was only available in two colors: white or black.

The company continued with a second frame design featuring progressive geometry designed to make the bike more accessible to a wider range of riders.

The addition of the Lectric XP Step-Thru was the last major update to the bike, so this “next generation” could bring a whole new wave of features.

A few of the areas that could be improved include high-end parts such as the suspension, hydraulic disc brakes, integrated lighting built into the frame, a larger battery, a more robust mount or even more whimsical additions like an intermediate motor or drive belt. – training facilities.

Considering that the Lectric XP has long been the champion of the budget e-bike market, it’s hard to imagine the team getting too sophisticated with the load of the new generation. But then again, offering both a high-end and budget electric bike could help the company expand its market and challenge some of the big incumbents.

Another unknown hanging over the launch is whether Lectric e-bikes will be able to keep their low. Price of $ 899. Most of the major e-bike manufacturers have been forced to increase their prices recently due to a number of industry pressures, but the Lectric XP has held up. Will it stay at its peak price? No one knows yet.

We have a week left until the reveal, but we’ll be sure to update if we can get our hands on any more teasers. In the meantime, check out our review of the Lectric XP below, and be sure to come back here on May 18 for the full unveiling details. We’ll be sure to break the news first.
