Seagate Releases Next-Generation Exos X Storage Arrays Offering Twice the Performance and Self-Healing Technology | Company

FREMONT, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Sept. 7, 2022–

Seagate Technology Holdings plc (NASDAQ: STX), a global leader in mass data storage infrastructure solutions, today announced its next-generation Exos® X systems, advanced storage arrays powered by the sixth-generation controller from Seagate. The new Exos X systems offer up to twice the performance of the previous generation and improved enterprise-class durability. To help protect stored data, Exos X systems integrate the ADAPT (Advanced Distributed Autonomic Protection Technology) erasure coding solution with Seagate’s innovative ADR (Autonomous Drive Regeneration) self-healing storage technology.

The Exos X Series is a family of petabyte-scale rackmount block storage enclosures that aggregate and virtualize tens to hundreds of hard drives and SSDs for maximum data resiliency, availability, and performance. Exos X systems are ideal as a highly available enterprise storage infrastructure for conventional enterprise data centers as well as private clouds.

Onboard the Exos X storage arrays is Seagate’s ADAPT erasure encryption solution that minimizes data redundancy overhead and speeds recovery time with fast system rebuilds. Combined with ADAPT, ADR can automatically monitor, diagnose and rebuild disks in place continuously without the need for a manual swap. This enables data centers to reduce physical disk handling, human intervention, and IT electronic waste.

Additionally, the new VelosCT™ controller enables higher performance up to 725,000 IOPS (I/O per second) at 1ms latency, sequential read speeds up to 12GB/s and writes at 10GB /s. Data centers can take advantage of hyperscale-class efficiency, simple, frictionless deployment, and streamlined data management across a wide range of demanding, always-on workload environments.

“By leveraging Seagate’s unique vertical integration, which spans from silicon device design and manufacturing to services, we are bringing new levels of innovation and value to the storage systems market. business,” said Ken Claffey, senior vice president of systems at Seagate. “Featuring the new controller designed and built by Seagate, the new Exos X systems can achieve a new level of RAID array availability, reliability and performance for greater efficiency while dramatically reducing administrative overhead. Exos X systems will help our data center customers implement a future-proof data management strategy. »

“We are excited about the introduction of Seagate’s new RAID controller which offers high performance and cost effective system solutions,” said Dorin Vanderjack, vice president and general manager, Intel US OEM & Strategic Account Sales. “In this time of unprecedented data growth, integrating Intel® Xeon® D processors with Seagate’s enhanced ASIC architecture improves customers’ total cost of ownership and helps increase the business value of their hardware and products. data.

Exos X systems also support the open standard Redfish and Swordfish management protocols.

Seagate’s Exos X 2U12, 2U24, and high-density 5U84 enclosure, all featuring the new VelosCT ASIC controllers, are available worldwide through qualified Seagate distributors. For more details, visit the Seagate website All Flash, Hybrid & Disk Arrays page.
