SANTA CLARA, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–October 12, 2022–
Natron Energy, Inc., today announced the launch of the Blue Rack™ battery cabinet, available in 250 kW and 500 kW configurations. The Blue Rack is the world’s first sodium-ion battery cabinet designed for mission-critical applications such as data centers, power peak shaving, and other industrial power environments. Sodium-ion technology offers tremendous power density with fast discharge and recharge, is sustainably and ethically sourced, and is safe and completely non-flammable. The Blue Rack is powered by Natron’s new Blue Pack © battery.
“This is the longest lasting, most powerful and above all safest battery available for these applications,” said Robert Rogan, Chief Commercial Officer of Natron. “Blue Rack’s sodium-ion technology outperforms lithium-ion and lead-acid in all critical parameters, especially safety.”
The Blue Rack can be configured to provide up to 500 kW of backup power. Its sodium-ion technology can produce a maximum power sustained by energy (40W/Wh) far greater than that of lithium-ion (10W) and lead-acid (7W), and its lifespan is five times longer. lithium-ion and 50 times better. than lead-acid. Sodium-ion recharges in five to 15 minutes, compared to an hour for lithium-ion and eight to 16 hours for lead-acid.
Natron’s sodium-ion batteries are the safest industrial battery technology available. They are non-flammable, even when penetrated by a nail or exposed to flame. They do not suffer any damage or loss of performance due to short circuits or overvoltage overload of up to 35%. They are the only UL listed sodium-ion batteries on the market and can be shipped fully charged by ground or air, unlike lithium-ion or lead-acid.
The revolutionary Prussian blue sodium-ion chemistry of the Blue Pack battery is sustainably and ethically sourced. Lithium mining, on the other hand, has a long history of alleged human rights abuses. Prussian Blue contains no rare earth minerals, acids or heavy metals, and Prussian Blue is non-toxic, simplifying disposal at end of life.
Blue Pack and Blue Rack battery cabinets are designed specifically for critical applications, with features such as:
- Wide operating temperature range (-30°C to +50°C)
- Twice as powerful as lithium-ion batteries
- Round-trip efficiency > 97%
- Over 50,000 deep discharge cycles
- Full charge in 15 minutes or less
- Ready immediately; no settling or thermal waiting required
- UL9540A ‘Champion’ – rated non-flammable without thermal runaway under all conditions
The Blue Rack cabinet and Blue Pack battery set a new standard for safe and durable data center power.
Natron will showcase this new battery at the 7×24 Exchange in San Antonio, Texas, October 23-26. Pre-orders will be accepted at the Natron booth at booth #15. Pre-production units shipped in early 2023.
