GoFundMe created for children whose parents died in murder-suicide
A GoFundMe has been created for children whose parents died in a murder-suicide in Youngsville.
The fundraiser was created by a family friend to help the children, two minors and an adult, with their current and future expenses.
Lauri Walters Bodin was gunned down by her ex-husband, Trent Bodin, Thursday night at a house in Maple Grove Lane, according to the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office. Trent Bodin then committed suicide.
“We all know that Lauri has surrounded herself with many amazing people who want to help her children as they try to deal with this tragedy,” Brikki Martin wrote on GoFundMe. “If you are reading this, please pray for McKenzie, Sean and Ethan as they now face the days, months and years without their mother-in-law who loved them more than anything.”

The GoFundMe has reached over $ 24,000 of its goal of $ 35,000.
The Bodins were in the process of a divorce and Lauri Bodin, 42, had received a restraining order against Trent Bodin, 45, according to court records.
Lauri Bodin applied for a protection order in July 2019 after claiming that Trent Bodin had grabbed her, pushed her, then destroyed furniture and shot a gun while hiding with one of her children, according to court records. She claimed that it was not the first time that he had been violent towards her.
Trent Bodin then filed for divorce.
The two had been separated since July 2019. Lauri Bodin lived with the couple’s minor children at their Maple Grove Lane home, court records show.
Trent Bodin was allowed supervised visits with the children, but he filed a petition in June stating that Lauri Bodin had not worked with the visitation center to allow such meetings, according to court documents.
