Lorne Parker, owner of the Courtenay Weed Man Lawn Care franchise, helps the community with more than just lawn care.

Parker has long supported YANA (You Are Not Alone), and this fall he expanded his community service by collecting food for the Comox Valley Food Bank.

“We’re going to do it every fall,” Parker said. “The original plan was to shut it down after last week, after Thanksgiving, but everything was going so well we didn’t want to stop. We have three pallets that we’re going to deliver this week – roughly five to seven thousand pounds of food – and we’ll continue to collect until the end of the month. “

Parker, who also owns the Weed Man Lawn Care franchises in Nanaimo and Victoria, said it was a way of showing gratitude for the support the community has given him and his business.

“The reason we chose to do this is because the Comox Valley has incredibly supported our business over the years and especially during the pandemic,” Parker said. “We emailed all of our customers (letting them know) that we were going to be collecting for the food bank and the response was overwhelming. It was obvious for us to collect when we were already serving the customer and it was a very easy way for us to make a big impact.

The Weed Man Lawn Care Food Bank drive coincides with the annual Thanksgiving Food Drive in British Columbia.
